Self Hypnosis Secrets: Command Yourself To Stop Smoking

I’m sure you’ve tried to use your will power many times to stop smoking. It seems counterintuitive to command yourself to do so. But if you will pay attention to advertisers, you’ll see the validity of this statement.

Advertisers don’t request that you, “May want to consider enjoying a Coca Cola from time to time.” No, they command you to “Enjoy coke.” Pepsi doesn’t gently cajole you into choosing their brand of refreshment by lightly suggesting, “Perhaps

Pepsi would be a good idea if you’re thirsty.” No, they command you to “Drink Pepsi.” Burger King doesn’t offer you a hamburger that, “Could be created the way you want it if you choose to do so.” No, they command you to “Have it your way.” And in the most blatant example of all, when you watch a Sprite commercial, you are commanded to “Obey your thirst.”

When we watch television, we relax and are put into a hypnotic trance by the advertisers. Have you noticed how difficult it can be to tear your eyes away from the screen?

Words are commands. Hear them often enough and we obey. How can we use this to stop smoking?

Follow these steps (notice the command in the word, “Follow”):

1.

Close your eyes and get comfortable. Take a few slow, deep breaths. With each breath, notice yourself going deeper and deeper into a state of relaxation. Relax your mind, relax your body, relax, relax, relax. All sounds which you may hear will have only a calming, soothing, effect.

2.     Repeat over and over and over any or all of these commands:

·      All my old urges are melting away and being replaced by strong feelings of success.

·      All that remains are distant memories of having smoked. I am free and in control.

·      I will never again reach for anything to smoke without thinking. I will never unconsciously smoke again.

·      I feel the exhilaration as I toss away my cigarettes without any need or desire at all.

·      I have lost interest in smoking.

·      I sleep easily, naturally and comfortably without a last cigarette.

·      I feel very good in body, mind and spirit because I no longer smoke.

·      I am free of nicotine.

·      I feel strong. My heart and lungs are clear and strong. With each breath, I inhale more energy and health.

·      I don’t gain weight because I have control over everything that I put in my mouth.

·      I am free.

Here are some ways to add power to these commands:

1.     Record the commands for replay while you are in a relaxed state or have someone else record them for you or have someone read them aloud while you relax.

2.     Write down commands of your choice and place them in several locations where you live and work.

3.     Tell several friends that you are quitting smoking and tell them to regularly remind you of your pledge. Choose friends who you know will command you to keep your word.

Commanding yourself to quit while in a relaxed state will ensure you stop smoking. And that’s today’s self hypnosis secret.

Have you ever wondered how you can be peaceful when you’re upset, anxious, fearful or stressed?  Sometimes it’s hard to even imagine being peaceful with all we have to do at work and all that we want to do at home.

Something happened at the movie theater the other day that reminded me of just how easily self hypnosis is used to be peaceful in any circumstance.

It was a busy day for me. I had many projects I was working on and several phone calls I wanted to make. However, I had promised my wife that I would go to the movies with her in the afternoon. I didn’t want to go, but a promise is a promise.

We arrived about 15 minutes early and sat in the theatre watching ads for local products and services. One ad was for a real estate agency. Another was for a gardening center. I was only partly aware of the ads as they flashed by on the screen. Mostly, I was rearranging my to do list in my head and considering what I’d be able to accomplish in the time that would be left after the movie.

An ad appeared for a massage retreat center. It was just a slide without sound or animation. The ad simply said, “Be still. Refresh. Renew. Relax.” The slide was on the screen for only about 15 seconds, but I noticed I was feeling slightly more relaxed. After about two minutes, the slide came up again. I relaxed even more.

Two more minutes passed, the slide appeared again and I went deeper and deeper into relaxation. Self hypnosis is nothing more than what I was experiencing: the repetition of a suggestion while going deeper and deeper into a relaxed state. I was literally self hypnotizing myself to relax.

There was still about 7 minutes before the movie started and I used that time to repeat the words “Refresh. Renew. Relax” over and over again. With each repetition, I was becoming more peaceful. My concern about the projects and phone calls disappeared. I felt relaxed and I enjoyed the movie.

When I returned home, I completed what I could before the business day ended without pressure or stress. I was at peace.

You can use this same technique to induce peace for yourself by simply repeating the word “peace” over and over again. To remind yourself to do this, write the word peace on several note cards and place them on your desk at work, on the refrigerator at home, on the bathroom mirror, etc. Whenever you see the word peace, inhale and, as you exhale, repeat the word peace. Be peaceful by finding peace everywhere you look. With time and repeated repetitions, you will not only find peace, you will be peaceful.

And that’s the secret to using self hypnosis to be peaceful.
